Featured Speaker: Bonnie Lee, Owner Pavelcomm
Adapting and thriving in a changing economy
Presenting: "In the words of Will Rogers..."
Summary:
"Even if you're on the right track, you'll still get run over if you just sit there."
Will Rogers uttered these famous words long before the world was forever changed by the power of personal computing, the Internet and wireless communications technology...but these words still ring true today.
Pavelcomm enjoyed early success selling voice equipment to Portland area businesses. The old business model of the 80-20 rule (80 percent of a business's revenue generated by 20 percent of its customers) was alive and well. The majority of Pavelcomm's revenue was generated by one large customer and, likewise, the majority of their resources and personnel were dedicated to that large customer. As the nation's economy began to change and mergers and acquisitions dominated the business news, Bonnie realized that the company was in a somewhat precarious position.
She saw that the long-anticipated convergence of voice and data was actually taking place and felt the timing was right for the company to branch out and bring data expertise to Pavelcomm. So that's what she did. With data expertise added to its repretoire, Pavelcomm could offer the complete package to its customers and be a one-stop shop, thereby increasing its revenue opportunities, broadening its customer base and lessening its dependence on the one large customer.
